Providing a Fresh Perspective

Individuals

Individuals Counselling
We all need someone to talk to.

Without it no new information is coming in and as a consequence we end up repeating old patterns of behaviour.

For example, if you turn the lid of a jar in the wrong direction, you won’t get to the contents. If you continue to turn it in the same way every time you will not get to the contents no matter how hard you try. Understanding the underlying causes gives you a more complete picture, a more holistic picture of your true nature.

If you have found it difficult or impossible to talk about things or express yourself, a trained set of eyes and ears may be able to help you find new ways.

Grief & Separation

Grief is an emotion caused by loss, usually as a result of a death or separation.

It is also an emotion that is best served by being expressed.

When grief is held in, it generally prolongs the suffering and can be a cause of depression.

Talking to a therapist is likely to bring this strong emotion to the surface where it can be expressed.

This process generally needs to be repeated a number of times before it recedes into the background of our lives and becomes an integrated part of who we are.

Grief can cause strong feelings of isolation.

Talking to a therapist who cares is an important way to heal yourself and to feel that you belong.

Depression & Anxiety

Depression and anxiety can be a very debilitating experience affecting directly how we feel about ourselves and the world.

Often depression and anxiety is simply about how we manage our own lives. A simple inability to be able to communicate or a lack of self knowledge may lead to a lifestyle that is both depressing and anxious.

Physical/Sexual Abuse

Physical and sexual abuse are the most harmful acts humans can commit on other human beings. These acts scar people for life, leaving a legacy of distrust, shame and hurt that permeates all facets of a persons life.

In the broadest sense, abuse damages our relationship to the self and to other people leaving us isolated.

The value of therapy is to provide a corrective relationship where the client learns to trust.

Alcohol/Drug Dependency

At the heart of most alcohol and drug abuse is a desire to be happy, misguided maybe but true all the same.

It is all very well to say ‘no’ to drugs but drug and alcohol abuse are almost always a symptom of other problems. This is what therapy needs to focus on.

In fact, the therapy needs to have two different focuses. One is some strategies for stopping. The other is to deal with the problems that underpin the addiction.
